» Joseph Curry

Mr Joseph Curry is the senior Consultant Neonatal and Specialist Paediatric Colorectal Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
He trained in the South East of England training consortium and was awarded the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons' medal for outstanding performance in the intercollegiate examination prior to taking up his current post in 2003. He is currently the South of England representative for the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons and is also a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Training in paediatric surgery in the UK.

Specialisms
His main areas of interest are in lower gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract. Particular areas of expertise are in managing children with ano-rectal malformations (including Cloacal malformation in girls), Hirschsprung’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. He also has extensive experience in oesophageal surgery, surgery for gastro-oesophageal reflux as well as frequently encountered conditions in childhood such as inguinal and umbilical hernia, undescended testes and hydrocoele. He has extensive experience in managing children who require gastrostomy, jejunostomy and other feeding devices. He is a member of the medical advisory committee for the UK TOFS parents society and works closely with another parent association for children with ano-rectal malformations.

He holds a post-graduate Certificate and Diploma in medical education from the University of London and has been appointed to the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Edinburgh College. He has previously been the training programme director for the South East England Paediatric Surgery training consortium.

Research interests
He has published over 125 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters and presented over 180 times to national and international conferences. He regularly reviews articles for journals such as the Journal of Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Surgery International and Prenatal Diagnosis. He is the current speciality editor for the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons.
