The syndrome has sometimes been called Brachmann de Lange Syndrome after one German doctor who described a baby with the features. The term "Amsterdam Dwarfism," named by Professor de Lange after her own city, is one we no longer use due to its pejorative connotations. The Foundation prefers to recognise Professor de Lange’s contribution to defining the syndrome and use the name Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.
